cast arrives

The cast has arrived and the rehearsals begin.

The first flight of the sail...well part of it!

Our first, of three baptismal sessions at the Palmyra temple.

Our first devotional. They always wear their suits to this devotional.
It sets the tone for the way the cast perceives the Work Crew.

Dinner out while casting is being done.
Our first time out since the work began.
The Golden Corral. They definitely got their money's worth!!! Well at least Brother Hess did! :)
Amazing how happy they are when their bellies are full! Lots of smiles.

Once again

You're never going to believe this...it's raining AGAIN!!!

FYI

FYI
If you want to see the whole picture in the post, click on it and it will bring up the whole thing.

Putting up the lights.

They really love their brothers!

This is the "stage is finished" picture that will be used for their thank you cards.
Nice looking group of young men.
Do you see your boy?

OK...they are still teenagers! :)

The lights are in and almost all hung. It is really and impressive set up.

As you can see the towers are almost as tall as the trees.

These are the boxes that the light come in. Cables go in the plastic bins.

Only a few more to go.

I said they came in semis and this is proof. Two semis full of lights travel the country delivering the
lights to all the Church Pageants around the country. VERY impressive.

The "yellow tent" This is where all the technical controls like sound, water screens, and computer controlled effects are managed, as well as where Brother Hess and Sister Howard (the follow spot/light crew manager) call the show. Each of the Work Crew members has on a headset that is connected to Brother Hess's or Sister Howard's headset and they can communicate with each YM and tell him when he needs to prepare for and activate his special effect, or shine his follow spot during the show. It can be a water cannon, fireball, smoker, flame, rock cannon (the rocks are made of foam) or putting up columns or the sail on the boat or props on the stage. There is also one District Leader that is the "ninja". The ninja is the one that harnesses the New World Savior and unhooks him when he steps onto stage 7 for his scene. He also spray paints his hands black and wears a black ski mask and black clothing so he isn't seen.
This year there is a new way to "fly" the Savior. Normally he wears a harness and is attached to a cable and then lifted into the air and moved over to the middle of the stage hanging about 15 feet in the air. This year he will be hydraulically lifted and then lowered onto stage 7.
Much safer than the old way.

Below is a  shot of what the light tower harnesses look like.
We take every precaution to make sure the YM are safe.
As you can see the sun IS shining and it is HOT!
Lots of Gatorade is being consumed.

On a side note, thank goodness for Black Ice air fresheners! :)

RAIN! RAIN! RAIN!

There won't be many pictures today. It is really RAINING!!! All day.
They are still working on the stage and getting soaked.

The rain hasn't seemed to slow them down and at lunch today they sang
"There is Sunshine in My soul Today"!!!!
You just have to love their enthusiasm.
